Re: It's terrific by train

It is a big deal isn't it? Keiller says that the North London Line was extended east from Dalston to North Woolwich when Broad Street was demolished, but some pretty extensive research (a quick look at a couple of Underground maps) suggests that not much happened to it after that. Until now. This is...

Re: It's terrific by train

There's an essay by Patrick Keiller which is partly about the North London Line. I've just been reading it. It's in a book called "Restless Cities". At the time he's writing (during 2009 I think) the line extends from Richmond to North Woolwich, although beyond Stratford it's to become part of the D...

Re: stitch-stitch records

I'm not exactly on the cutting edge of Ray Rumours appreciation I know but I've been listening to that album a lot recently and I think it's pretty much flawless. All of the songs are great but the effect of listening to them together is even better. I think it's the way each song ends sort of softl...

The Clientele and The Would-Be-Goods might play the London shows. They're both Chickfactor favourites. And The Foxgloves. Actually I only know one Foxgloves song, "Passing Through", but that's enough to make me want to see them.

Re: Your Indietracks 2012 Wishlist (and actual announcements

Thanks, that's interesting to know. It looks like I might have assumed too much there. I'd be interested to hear what they play at Indietracks. I guess they did songs from the first Bart And Friends ep at the Spiral Scratch show?

Re: Your Indietracks 2012 Wishlist (and actual announcements

Bart Cummings + Pam Berry = Shapiros' songs! I wonder how often those have been played live. The Shapiros didn't play many shows did they? And I don't imagine the two of them get many chances to play together, although was she the special guest when Spiral Scratch put him on last year?

Re: The Aislers Set

It's a bit weird picking favourites from an Aislers Set setlist I know, but I'd have been thrilled to hear "Melody Not Malaise" at the Chickfactor show. I like the way that song stretches out and the way that just when you think it can't possibly get any better it does, at "And you know that I would...

Re: Chickfactor 20th Anniversary Shows NY/DC April 6/7/10/11

Of the bands that played these shows the only one I've actually seen is Pipas, which is maybe not surprising living down here. That was in a lineup with The Frenchmen + The Cut-Outs. You guys have probably already watched this but I don't think it's possible to get tired of it, http://www.youtube.co...

Re: Chickfactor 20th Anniversary Shows NY/DC April 6/7/10/11

The Lois Plus was one of quite a few bands I read about in Chickfactor but never actually heard, so it was nice to be reminded of them in the lineup. I think there are some Lois Maffeo fans around here, and while I couldn't find any videos of The Lois Plus, I did find this, http://www.youtube.com/wa...

If any Anoraks make it along to these shows it would be great to have some reports.

Re: Sea Lions

Hmm that guitar sound. I'd been thinking that some of it sounded a bit like the guitar on "Heavenly vs Satan" but if the sleeve notes on (the K Records reissue of) that album have taught me anything it's that Peter Momtchiloff plays a fender jaguar and looking on the internet I've concluded that nei...

Re: Sea Lions

That band photo is great, isn't it? So is the photo on the sticker of the instruments piled up against the same backdrop, this time without their owners. I've been trying to think why I like the album so much. I don't think I can do better than what Slumberland has to say about furiously-strummed gu...

I just watched that video three times in a row. The acting's good too, she's a convincing robot and the guys don't overplay it.

"Leave That Girl Alone", heh.

I've been doing some youtube research on The Werewandas. I'm pretty sure that's The Cut-Outs' drummer on drums, and is that the guy from The Cut-Outs (not Sean Fortuna Pop) on bass?

Re: FPOP Winter Sprinter - 4th - 6th January 2012 London

I miss The Cut-Outs too. Especially when he sings "And I know nothing at all/Nothing at all" and there's that pause and then "Except you never call/When you say you're going to call". And when he sings "You're not allowed within 200 yards" and she sings "No no". I don't think they released anything ...

To mark Flying Nun's 30th birthday next month Radio New Zealand have put up this series of documentaries, http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/documentaries/flyingnunrecords They played some highlights in a programme on Saturday afternoon and I think they said it was all recorded in about 1995 but hasn...
