Re: a thread of Pocketbooks' own

Anyone care to nominate a favourite song from the album so far? I can't stop listening to Sweetness and Light. At first I just liked the tune (and the way it starts in the middle of a sentence), but I listened to the words properly earlier and they're brilliant and really quite touching, especially...

Re: a thread of Pocketbooks' own

I hadn't been this ridiculously excited about a new album since, I don't know, Fold your hands? And it is even better than I thought it would be. It's hard to believe it's true, it is.

I believe that one is called 'Fleeting moments'. It is full of wonderful lines, isn't it?

Re: a thread of Pocketbooks' own

Dimitra, do you recognise the photo? :-) Yeah, I think I've seen it before: http://heavenisabove.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html I don't think we're on it, though. That would have been cool. Since I can't come to the Popfest, someone will have to buy this for me at the very first opportunity ....

Re: knitting

I've just taught myself to knit and I came here to show off. Of course after reading the thread through I think I will quietly go away again and come back in a few years, when I'll be able to knit something more than a scarf for Martijn's teddybear. (The teddybear is well pleased, though.) Then I ca...

Re: what book are you reading?

has anyone read the new marilynne robinson ("home") yet? and what did you think? Oh my god! There's a new one! Amazon, here I come! So. I did buy that, and promptly read it when it arrived, but it was a crazy time in my life so I didn't have much time to report back, and I forgot about it. Here's w...

Re: what book are you reading?

my little cousin gave me a book called The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, which is for children and about the Holocaust. I read about half of it while eating my breakfast on the 26th and it was probably the most depressing breakfast ever. Is the book any good? I read it a few years ago, and I thought ...

Re: what book are you reading?

I think it's in our book case somewhere, which means Dimitra must have read it. I thought the subject sounded a bit weird, but then I read Andrew Sean Greer's even weirder "The Confessions of Max Tivoli" and that one was quite enjoyable; I might give it another chance. Nah, you shouldn't. I did rea...

Re: It's terrific by train

Here's something: it's brilliant when you're on a fairly fast train and you're watching the rails, how the bits where they meet and split and stuff make them look like they're dancing. Aww. I'm glad I'm not the only one who stares at those. Also, I love the word 'uncatchy'. I'll have to find an opp...

I'm starting student teaching this week which is the last course I have to do before becoming certified to teach. I'm teaching kindergarten which is 5 and 6 year olds. Should be fun. Hey, I'm a teacher too, well, just about, we should start our own thread! I have a (very small) bunch of six and sev...

It depends! For a start, why do you want to become a primary (school) teacher? Secondly, are you willing to learn your times tables and to spell?
