Re: Fantasy Football League

I'm in. Optimists Anonymous are my lot. Can't publish any squad details here just yet, mind, as my line-up changes by the day.

Re: The Football

It really was fantastic. Jim Beglin certainly got carried away towards the end: "Wow, how these two legs have opened up!" What were him and Tyldesley getting up to in that commentary box?

Re: TV Quick: talk about things on telly succinctly

I'm not sure about that. It wasn't as good as the screenwipe he did a while back on rolling news anyway. That was fantastic. I thought this was better. Still, semi-topical news-based satire's all about opinions at the end of the day, Brian. Could be good. Could be awful. Depends on the "funny and f...

Re: TV Quick: talk about things on telly succinctly

Just been watching the first episode of Charlie Brooker's Newswipe on the iPlayer. The bass player from The Loves was on there, doing one of the reports. The girl done good. This was an excellent first episode, by the way. Really cut through the bullshit, hypocrisy and scaremongering of modern TV ne...

Dictionary Corner guest in the second week of March: Colin Murray. How has this been allowed to occur? Have we displeased the lord? Murray seemed really nervous on his DC debut yesterday. He suffered badly in comparison to the excellent Phil Hammond last week. Actually, not only was Hammond properl...

Re: TV Quick: talk about things on telly succinctly

Apparently Trimble has been asked to pose for a 'lads mag'. Hmmm. As you might expect, she demurred (or at least her brother did on her behalf). I see Corpus Christi have been stripped of their series win now anyway, for fielding an ineligible player - Sam Kaye having left the college between the s...

Re: London Popfest 26/02-1/03

Did anyone else see the woman with the Morrissey tattoo? Yes! She was stood just in front of us while we were waiting for the fantastic Sarah Action Biker to come on. I threatened my other half that I might have to get a similarly-placed Ryan Paris tattoo myself now. (they'll all be getting them so...

Re: The Football

All the pundits, all the awful awful pundits, were saying he's not that kind of person and that he said sorry to Anichebe, etc... I didn't believe a word. He's always been an odious bore, chasing referees around, swearing his tits off and kicking lumps out of players. Boo to Nolan. Yeah, that's suc...

Re: London Popfest 26/02-1/03

cara, i've got an all-the-days ticket but i'm only attending the saturday event now. unfortunately it's one of those non-transferable wegottickets jobs, so i've no idea how you using it on the friday would work. I'm in the same boat as regards having a weekend pass but only being able to make the S...

Re: TV Quick: talk about things on telly succinctly

The man who says "Corpus Christi, Roberts", "Manchester, Smith" and all that was sure getting excited by the end of University Challenege tonight. I guess he was swept up by final fever. He's been doing that all series, when things have been close at the end. It's really quite endearing (albeit it'...

Re: The Football

"So, in one word Teddy, explain what Agbonlahor brings to this England side" "Outstanding pace" Something Sheringham knows all about, obviously. (Maybe he thinks outstandingpace really is all one word?) Still, at least they (ITV) managed to get through the whole game without cutting to any ad break...

Re: TV Quick: talk about things on telly succinctly

Just been catching up with last night's University Challenge semi-final. Manchester's Pertinez (beardy, sits on the far left, a bit smug, knows everything) is a dead ringer for one of the contestants from the world stare-out championships from Big Train. It's uncanny.

Re: The Football

Did it coincide with the goal for you guys? I don't know if it varied from region to region, but for me it went back to the match just as the ball was played for Van der Meyde to put the cross in. Still, bit of a fuck up. Well, when they went to the advert for some reason I flipped over to ITV4 for...

Re: The Football

Ten minutes away from penalties in the Merseyside FA Cup match. I really like Leighton Baines - would definitely like to see him get a game for England. 3 minutes from the end and ITV decide we really need an advert for e-on RIGHT FUCKING NOW. Not much can happen right at the end of a match, eh? I ...

Anyone else seen this new-ish BBC4 sketch show? Ironically, it's a bit sketchy. Or at least I think it is. I'm not even sure why it ended up on BBC4, actually, as it has more than a whiff of BBC3 about it. The cartoons are good, mind.

Oh God, I missed Friday's, but I managed to catch a few when I was off sick the other week. I thought he'd win - I think he might be the one that Pete called Joey Ramone earlier in this thread. The really good ones never seem to have personalities, unfortunately. I assume Rachel has found her feet ...

Re: BER-dum, BER-dum, BER-der-der-dum! The Countdown thread

If Vorderman had still been on Countdown, the Tories wouldn't have deemed a maths task force necessary. Other subjects are far more in need of attention but they didn't have a celebrity representative handy. This is as cynical, shallow and spin-driven a piece of policy as anything New Labour has ev...

Re: TV Quick: talk about things on telly succinctly

I really enjoyed last night's final quarter-final of University Challenge, chiefly because the teams weren't buzzing in with the correct answer (or even an incorrect one) after about 3 seconds of Paxman beginning each question. That team with the 1960s John Peel as captain and a young Kirsty Wark to...

Re: Which radio shows do you listen to?

6 Music used to be great all the time, but now it's virtually unlistenable until 4pm on weekdays, with Radio 1-type wazzocks hogging the airwaves all day. The decision to shunt Gideon Coe off to late nights and replace him with the odious George Lamb in the mid-morning slot a year or two ago still r...
