Re: Astrophysics and astronomy and space things

Nothing exciting? That's another world you're looking at there!

Sorry, I've probably seen it a thousand times and it still excites me. Then again I am a big space geek :p

Re: Astrophysics and astronomy and space things

Sounds like Venus. It has been up and about just after sunset lately, in the SW. It looks like a really bright star until you look at it through binoculars, then you'll see a crescent shape like the moon :)

Re: Birmingham

Stopped in the Victoria last week after we were accosted by a rather chirpy girl in the German market. Was quite impressed (if a little sorry to see chirpy girl wasn't there), laid back feeling and very friendly staff. Could do with a better selection of drinks though.

Re: Peru

Hey :) I'm thinking of applying for a job in Lima. I knew very little about it until this time last week and the whole thing seems both exciting and daunting all at once. While it seems an wild, busy place I thought I'd ask a few questions: 1.) It seems that nobody can mention Lima without mentionin...

Re: It's the Large Hadron Collider Thread, yo!

There's a live webcam of the LHC here in case anyone wants to see what's going on:

Re: It's the Large Hadron Collider Thread, yo!

I'm so looking forward to what the LHC reveals around the composition of particles. It's like living in the future and almost makes up for being 5 to 10 generations too early to set foot on the moon/mars/just go in to space. If they find evidence of the Higgs Boson I might wee myself. I was lucky e...

Re: It's the Large Hadron Collider Thread, yo!

There's so many physics topics. This is awesome.

I've spent most of the past week calming worried pupils down about the apparent end of the world.

I also want to be Brian Cox when I grow up.

Re: Cocteau Twins

I got into them quite late myself after a friend recommended them. I do quite enjoy fitting my own lyrics to the songs: "I'm seeing everything as trees, I want to live with all the bumblebees, but is it Heaven or Las Vegas?" I think I'm going to go away and listen to them actually, its been a while.

Re: be random about science

I'm still to find someone who dislikes Richard Feynman. Such a clever guy, but with a real passion for explaining it. No real intellectual snobbishness about him. I'm trying to think of some of my favourite quotes of his (there are many), but the one that springs to my tired mind is: "Physics is to ...

Re: Birmingham

Hi Matt, Were you at the camp site bar thingy with us on sunday night? For part of it yeah :) Also, it seems the Hippodrome is showing MARY POPPINS, which should be done really. Is anyone up for it? See, I actually got excited by this...not enough to actually pay to see it or anything though. Step ...

Re: Golden Valley Caravan Park

I found the staff really nice and friendly, but did hear lots of horror stories whilst we were there. That said, even with all the money its got to be a very stressful time for them.

I could have happily watched the batty woman all day mind. "Four coffees!"
