Re: Sea Lions

I'm also a bit surprised about the lack of adoration for Sea Lions around these parts. I saw them at Popfest 3 years back, and they blew me away. I loved all the tapes and singles, but the album took a while before it was in steady rotation on my turntable. Now it's definitely my favorite of the yea...

Nolan (me) Illustration Site

Hello!
I just put together a site for my illustration work and thought some people on here might get a kick out of it! Why not.

Is Calvin Johnson the Bill Murray of the indiepop scene?

Re: Debsey Wykes (Dolly Mixture and other bands)

There are a bunch of great videos of Dolly Mixture singing backup for Captain Sensible on the Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rD8EGmku41w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8QFVar6g2g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jF2ImyQjzyc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOpJqYHoctg There was a great one wit...

Re: Debsey Wykes (Dolly Mixture and other bands)

I just got the Demonstration Tapes repress. It sounds excellent! 100 times better than the lo-fi mp3s I downloaded from some Angel Fire site!

Re: Debsey Wykes (Dolly Mixture and other bands)

Darn! Looks like the Demonstration Tapes repress is already sold out!

Edit: Nevermind, looks like it's still at Germs of Youth's site at a slightly higher price than Rough Trade.

Las Robertas

My friend Meche (I met her at NYC Popfest '08) has a new noisy all girl pop band in Costa Rica. They just recorded this great record, and I'm having a good time listening to it. It's available to download for free here... http://lasrobertas.bandcamp.com/ So excited that it's finally out, and figured...

Re: The Aislers Set

Daniel Barrow, who did the artwork for the Ballet's most recent album, has a new book coming out. Apparently Amy Linton is doing the music! I would love to hear it, but the 50 dollar price is a bit out of my price range. Art Metropole is pleased to launch Daniel Barrow's limited edition book NO ONE ...

Has anyone heard the singer's solo album? It's also really, really lovely.

Re: The Ballet

Ah! Wanted to add to the chorus of "this album is wonderful". I can't stop listening to it. I love in Chinatown when the music stops at the end and then kicks back in with the chorus. Perfect. I don't understand why they're not huge. They seem to be incapable of writing a bad song.

I'm so excited about the new album! Their first release is one of my all time favorites, and the new songs sounded wonderful at NYC Popfest this year.

Re: The Hidden Cameras

I went to the record release show the other night. It was really wonderful. They had a ghost chorus up in a balcony above the stage, and a large horn section. I like how cheesey and overblown the new album is.

Re: Captured Tracks

Maybe this is silly, but I liked Dum Dum girls better before seeing that video of them performing live. I have very little tolerance for cooler than thou posturing. Very few people can pull it off well. Part of what attracted me to the indiepop scene was the lack of this attitude... Maybe I just hav...
