Re: How D'ya Like Them Grapples - A Wrestling Thread

I, personally, am northern based so haven't been to any London shows but have been meaning to attend one of the Progress shows they have put on in Manchester without ever actually doing so because my life is mostly about making promises to myself that I somehow never deliver on. I have, however, bee...

Re: Hi from a relative Indiepop newcomer and let's play a ga

Hi Andy. I don't really post here very much and never really have (sinister lurking is my approach in both internet forums and Actual life) although I did once start a wrestling thread in the sports section if you are into that sort of thing. No? Of course not. How silly of me. I thought I would joi...

Re: How D'ya Like Them Grapples - A Wrestling Thread

The only reason I could justify them Not doing Undertaker v Sting this year is they have their hopes set on breaking attendance records at Mania 32 in Texas and that will be a big draw in selling tickets. Was mildly amused by people losing their shit at photos of Sting and 'taker talking at the airp...

Re: How D'ya Like Them Grapples - A Wrestling Thread

Didn't realise this had been, albeit fleetingly, resurrected. Came here to post my pleasant surprise at how solidly entertaining the Wrestlemania which must not be numbered was. Perhaps helped by the lowered expectations courtesy of the zero assed build going in but there wasn't a single stinker of ...

Re: Boring Indie

Perhaps it's slightly dickish to pick on an unsigned band like this but they are from my hometown so I figure they are fair game somehow.. I present to you - The Carvetti's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3TkoZI5LD8 From their online missives they fire shots at "manufactured pop" and suck up to Supr...

Re: How D'ya Like Them Grapples - A Wrestling Thread

Is 'The Model' Rick Martell still going? I liked him. If by "still going" you mean here on earth as a living, breathing, sentient human being then, yes absolutely. Which is more than can be said for a lot of the wrestlers from that generation. He is no longer in the business though as far as I know...

How D'ya Like Them Grapples - A Wrestling Thread

This may well end up being a place where I hum the John Cena theme to myself whilst sobbing softly but I figured there should be somewhere for potentially like-minded Anorak folk to discuss wrestling new and old. Plus wrestling seems to be in good shape these days with the WWE having a stacked roste...

Re: A Carefully Planned Festival #3

I'd love to go. But y'know, Manchester innit. And I kinda get overwhelmed by the amount of bands playing. Get your point about the amount of bands. Have attended some of the In The City weekenders held in Manchester previously and as much time is spent between venues working out where to go next as...

A Carefully Planned Festival #3

Anybody here planning on attending this? Multi venue weekender taking place in October in Manchester (permission to stop reading now granted) and featuring several Anorak friendly bands (ONSIND, Felt Tips, Good Grief, Fever Dream, Just Handshakes, This Many Boyfriends) and a heck load of ones with s...

Re: Boring Indie

at the end of that hair video you can almost hear tim lovejoy muttering 'oh yes, they are going to be huge, the hair... simon, what do you think of the hair? are they going to be huge?' and simon rimmer saying 'I dunno, there's a lot of that sort of sound around at the moment' and then they make so...

Re: Boring Indie

This thread reminds me of a band I saw around 2006 in Leeds (supporting.. um.. Ladyfuzz I think which, well, serves me right really) called The Hair. I looked them up on Youtube and found this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVvmkDxRHpo It's like a copy of Nuts magazine come to hideous life. The mi...

Judging from the timings posted further up you will miss Perkie and the Perkettes and 15 minutes of Songs for Walter.

One week today!

Re: GOING UP THE COUNTRY 2013 - Congleton Cheshire 1st June

Got my tickets and so excited for this! In the absence of a Tiny Birds I need a new band to drunkenly embarrass myself in front of. I'm thinking the Sunbathers myself :)

Re: London Popfest 2013 - 1 to 3 March 2013

Had such a wonderful time yesterday and Friday and disappointed I have had to return north and miss out on the Sunday fun. Standard Fare were properly brilliant weren't they? What a way to finish. I have a particular fondness towards them due to their songs getting me through a nightmarish motorway ...

Re: Your Indietracks 2013 wishlist

Seeing as The Pains of Being Pure at Heart seem to be getting active again I'll put a shout in for them. Also - Tiny Birds, who were wonderful when I saw them at GUTC last year. The person who mentioned Shop Assistants, even if frivolously, is playing with my dreams. I would happily accept Motorcycl...

Re: Camera Obscura

They have an incredible number of great b-sides in fact. 'Return To Send Her' remains one of my absolute favourite Camera Obscura songs. 'Let's Go Bowling' is utter beauty too. It seems unfair to pick just those two out though. They aren't the type of band I ever imagine stooping to release a b-sid...

Re: The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

Nobody has posted about their Magnetic Fields cover or upcoming tour yet I see. I have nothing much further to add to that other than I really like their take on Jeremy, though imagine those unimpressed by 'Beyond' won't be particularly thrilled with it, and that I will be at the Manchester show wit...
