Re: Indietracks 2016 photos and memories

It's only a little thing but it was great to hear Dorotea and Ivor Cutler wafting from the speakers on the main stage (on Sunday, I think). As for next year, who's going to be the first to play a Drake cover? Thanks to all the volunteers. If they let people play two years running I would 100% cover...

Re: Indietracks 2016 photos and memories

As I was driving away I had indiepop on in the car, but I can well imagine that other people chose to listen to something else, and fair play to them. If I went to a festival of cheese omelettes and ate cheese omelette all weekend, there is no way that I would have a cheese omelette when I got home...

Re: Indietracks 2016 photos and memories

(Personally if Indietracks let me DJ I think I would spend the entire set looping the Postal Service, CHVRCHES, Owen Pallett, Grimes and PC Music and that's why Indietracks must never ever ever let me DJ.) I'm starting the campaign to have deerful DJ next year right now . I have played one DJ set e...

Re: Indietracks 2016 photos and memories

Why not just accept that people are being made to feel unwelcome, thinking about why that might be, and modifying your behaviour to create a more welcoming space? This is literally it. Just listening and thinking and questioning your own behaviour. Nothing exists in a vacuum, there are broader soci...

Re: Indietracks 2016 photos and memories

It's a tricky one this. Without wishing to sound too Student Grant, maybe it's a bit worrying that someone paying working class urban black music caused such a hoo haw. Inclined to agree with this to be honest. It's one song out of a whole bunch over a whole weekend (I have some pretty awful person...

Re: Indietracks 2016 photos and memories

I...did not really see any bands and also did not really dance due to only being there for the Sunday and spending half of that time panicking about how I was going to set up all my Deerful electronics in the church and the rest of the time talking to new/old friends on the booze train, but it was g...

Re: Is indiepop racist?

Guilt isn't the point! It's really not. It's not productive. Apologies can be productive, self-awareness can be productive, effort can be productive, listening can be productive. I can't think of a situation in which self-flagellation gets anything much done. If you haven't witnessed racism at shows...

Re: Is indiepop racist?

I have never witnessed what I consider to be discriminatory behaviour amongst the people who attend gigs in this genre and am confident that it's less prevalent than in wider society , but this is purely anecdotal. Also, the bolded doesn't matter. Who cares if it happens amongst our friends less th...

Re: Is indiepop racist?

I don't think anything can truly be labelled as racist or discriminatory unless it has been deliberately formed or founded on the back of some of those exclusionary and hateful principles and ideas (i.e. the B N P, EDL, Britain First, the far right skinhead movement etc). I also take issue with thi...

I love Nobody's Empire. I love Allie. I like the rest of the new album a lot but those two have got me right in the gut for some reason.

Re: Pop quiz! Who has been in the most Indietracks bands?

Do I get points for being in as many Indietracks bands as the number of times I've been to Indietracks, or am I just cheap?

Re: Belle and Sebastian

I really like the style/arrangements of the new stuff but I also think The Party Line is just at its heart kind of a boring song regardless of whether they decided to do it as guitar-pop or synth-pop. I hope it's not a single and they've just bunged it on YouTube first to get the dullest one out of ...

Re: Belle and Sebastian

I actually thought 'I didn't see it coming' was one of the best things they've ever done and liked a lot of the others as well. they've got that late career success problem where if it isn't a greatest hits everytime it isn't good enough even though it is actually great. I Didn't See It Coming is t...

Anyone with car space driving back to London on the Sunday?

Hello! A last-minute change of plans means I will not be at Indietracks this year helping out with the cardboard vinyl record players workshop, and I'm heartbroken. :( BUT. My partner/bandmate/nice person Dan (who is not an Indietracks regular but who you might have seen at some point playing violin...

Re: The weather pessimism thread

God, I hope it cools down a bit. I don't think I could hack camping in this weather.

With that said I would quite like to not have to leave space to pack wellies.
