Re: The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

This is amazing - friends of mine who wouldn't normally admit to listening to pop music are giving it a go based on these glowing reviews, and are falling in love with the Pains as we all did months ago. It's so exciting! Will they be huge? I hope so!! I wrote an article on them for last month's Pla...

I bought Silence Is Wild tonight, and I'm in love. I love her storytelling, her delivery, everything. I suspect this album will consume my life for more than just a few days.

Re: Are there any indiepop Kiwis?

my girlfriend and i currently have vague plans for trying to start a clubnight somewhere, but haven't really put much effort into it so far. we really want it to be free and are struggling to find anywhere that can make that possible. Chris, please tell me when this happens and I will make the effo...

This news broke my heart to pieces. I'm just so glad I got to see them play twice.

Heartbreak! They are playing here in Brisbane in November on the same night that I'll be attending a wedding in another city. Arggh!

style blogs

What style blogs do Anorak girls regularly frequent? I discovered Sea of Shoes last night - holy crap, this girl is 16 years old and has already amassed a shoe collection to make any grown woman cry.

I love both old and new Chloe - the old one is charming in a nanna-scent type of way, while the new one is fresh and sweet yet pouty.

I am about 64 pages into this book - am I supposed to despise every character I've come across so far as much as I do?

Re: 90210

Steve Sanders was the best, mainly because he had a number plate that read "NE1410S" - anyone for tennis, eh? Also, the fact he looked like one of the teachers and had godawful curly blonde hair has to make anyone a winner in a high school teen drama.

Re: Jeans Genies

Cheap Monday are my favourites because they fit reasonably well, have a million and one different shades, and they're, well, cheap to boot! I used to have such trouble finding jeans, but a few years ago I bought a pair of Miss Sixty jeans which were the first pair of jeans to fit me properly - aroun...

Re: They should have released less...

Ash were my big time teenage crush, but after hearing "Numbskull" I just couldn't really like them much anymore. Plus, I used to think Mark Hamilton was incredibly cute, but he's since turned emo. And call me ageist, but I can't handle the fact they're now 30 or so. I wish they could have stayed 17-...

Re: Belle and Sebastian

Wait, were you on it Alexie? I believe I received a mixtape and fanzine ("Unintentionally Lo-Fi") from you then! I received it from a lovely Miss Alex in Australia off Sinister? I spent two years trying to make a mixtape as great as that back, but failed utterly. I'm sorry. Teehee that was me! Quel...

Re: Rose Melberg (Tiger Trap, Go Sailor, The Softies)

Rose Melberg really is one of my musical heroines. I can't write songs or sing for nix, but if I could I'd want to be just like her. Just about everything she has done has either broken my heart or brought a massive smile to my cheeks. Initially, I really didn't like Go Sailor - I heard "Long Distan...

Re: Phil Wilson/The June Brides

I recently bought a copy of the 2CD June Brides & Phil Wilson set, and I love love love it. It's my Saturday morning stereo fixture now :)

I believe there was a June Brides tribute album released, I don't know how long ago. Is it still available anywhere? Does anybody have a copy?

Re: Belle and Sebastian

So how many Anoraks were on Sinister? And is the mailing list still running? I was on there between about 2003 and 2006 or so, but since I changed email accounts I haven't resubscribed. I guess I missed its halcyon days, although it was still a lot of fun when I was on there. I still have mixtapes f...

Re: what book are you reading?

Weren't you the one whose favourite book is Lady Chetterley's Lover ? I read that one earlier this year and thought it was a bit disappointing. Interesting perhaps and a good document of 1920s England, but ultimately the story was a bit weak. The thing about Lady Chatterley is that time has made it...

Re: what book are you reading?

I started East of Eden this morning. One of my favourite favourite books of all time. God how I cried when I hit the end of The Grapes of Wrath . I just finished reading D.H. Lawrence's The Lost Girl - I loved it, but I don't think I loved it as much as some of his other stories. I'm so excited, be...
