I've finally found a moment to really listen to the Neverever album. I like it, but the re-recording of Blue Genes sounds very strange. I think I'm too used to the Champagn Socialists' 7" version.

I need more Corn Dollies. 'Nothing of You' just came on. The guitars and bombastic drums are filling up the room. Wow this would sound brilliant turned up loud at a club. I think I put 'Forever Steven' on the mix I made for an Indietracks person. I wish they'd get in touch!

Hmm, they really need a retrospective collection on Cherry Red or something.

Ooh and I just found this on Wikipedia! Arrrghghggh! *swoon*
Quote:
The follow-up, "Forever Steven", originally released on the band's own Farm Label, was produced by Robert Forster of The Go-Betweens[3] reached #16

I don't know what you already have of course, but you could download their debut album at willfully obscure here:

Whenever I think of The Corn Dollies, I think of an interview they did when the Alvin Lives in Leeds anti-Poll Tax compilation came out, and they were slagging off Ride for not getting involved in it because it was political.

Sorry, that's completely inconsequential. But then this is the internet.

I have that record. Lush doing "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" is the best thing EVER.

That isn't particularly political is it?

You say that, Andy, but I've always read it as an acerbic satire on the relentlessly upbeat and conservative nature of the contemporary mainstream media in the context of the Conservatives' policy on local taxation and the poverty and social deprivation thus visited on the working classes.

We were listening to that recently in Panda Mansions. The Cud version of Bohemian Rhapsody is a thing of wonder.
